This week I wanted to send you some love from the Big Apple, which has been a dream come true. Since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamed of coming to New York. So I followed my heart, and made the dream a reality; arriving with an open heart and a desire to learn, grow, and immerse myself in Classical Pilates. This deep dive was about so much more than refining my practice. It was a journey back to the roots of the method, learning from senior teachers who studied directly with Romana Kryzanowska. I experienced the legacy of Joseph Pilates through teachers who continue to keep the original method alive, vibrant, and true to its essence. And the legacy is very much still alive. Classical Pilates is so much more than exercise. It is an art, a discipline, a philosophy, and a living legacy passed from one generation to the next. My heart is full of gratitude for this experience and for the inspiring teachers who continue to honour the method’s roots.A little bit of background: during World War I, the British authorities interned Pilates, along with other German citizens, in Lancaster Castle, where he taught wrestling and self-defense, boasting that his students would emerge stronger than they were before their internment. Pilates studied the movements of animals and trained his fellow inmates in fitness and exercises. He later said that the intuitive movements of cats, in particular, inspired many aspects of his fitness regimen. It was there that he began refining and teaching his minimal-equipment system of mat exercises that later became "Contrology", which we know as the Classical mat series.I leave New York with deeper knowledge, a richer philosophy, renewed purpose, and an even greater appreciation for the art of movement. Sometimes, all it takes is listening to our inner child and having the courage to follow her dreams. New York City, you will always hold a special place in my heart. ✨Thank you 🙏 once again everyone for your support and I am very proud to share all this fantastic knowledge with you all next week, on the Mat online and in person, on Wednesday 4th Nov, at 8pm, and on Magic Circle ⭕️ on Friday 6th Nov too! #NewYork #ClassicalPilates ...
